Meet Rachel Duprey

I qualified in 2007 with a first-class honours degree in Audiology and began my career with the NHS Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

During this period, I gained invaluable clinical experience working with adults and children with hearing loss. In 2016, I underwent advanced training in ear wax removal, which ignited a passion for continued learning. This ultimately led me to pursue and complete a Master’s in Advanced Practice (Audiology) while balancing work and family life with two young children.

In 2020, I relocated to stunning Powys, and, as if by fate, the role of Professional Head of Audiology became available. I was fortunate to secure this position, which allowed me to expand audiology services for the local community and develop new professional skills. Although this role was immensely rewarding, in 2025, I decided to embrace the challenge of self-employment, aiming to improve my work-life balance and spend more quality time with my growing children.

Before settling in Powys, Crickhowell had always been one of our favourite places to visit. While initially planning a mobile audiology service, the opportunity to rent an office in Clarence Hall House arose, and I couldn’t pass it up. This decision has proven to be truly gratifying. The support and warmth extended by local business owners and residents have been humbling and inspiring.

Drawing on my NHS experience, where time was often constrained and pressured, I envisioned a clinic with a different approach. I strive to make the appointment process as seamless as possible, offering flexibility via text, email, phone calls, and even social media. I don’t adhere to fixed working days or hours; instead, I accommodate patient requests to ensure accessibility. Additionally, I schedule appointments with ample time, eliminating stress and enabling me to focus fully on each patient. This approach fosters a relaxed atmosphere where I can connect with patients and put them at ease, especially those who might feel nervous. I genuinely enjoy engaging with people, exchanging recipes, holiday tips, or even sharing photos of my dogs!

I am deeply committed to growing my business and serving the Crickhowell community. While I currently offer ear wax removal and custom ear moulds, I’m excited to expand my services soon to include hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings. Stay tuned for updates!

What is an Audiologist?

An Audiologist is a highly trained healthcare professional specialising in the diagnosis and management of hearing and balance disorders.

In the UK, over 18 million individuals are affected by hearing loss, deafness, or tinnitus. Audiologists perform comprehensive assessments to determine the extent of hearing loss and its impact on daily life. They are qualified to prescribe and fit hearing aids or other devices tailored to individual needs, helping to enhance hearing ability and minimize challenges caused by hearing impairment.

For patients experiencing tinnitus, Audiologists offer evaluations to assess the severity of the condition and provide counselling and strategies to improve quality of life.

Audiologists also play a vital role in hearing protection by educating patients on the effects of noise exposure and providing custom-made protective devices for activities such as swimming, sleeping, or working in noisy environments.

In addition, many Audiologists are trained to perform ear wax removal, enabling thorough ear health examinations to identify any underlying conditions. This service ensures that hearing aids or other devices achieve optimal performance by maintaining ear health.
